Academic Freedom
Although it's illegal for a president to direct IRS actions, the IRS is reportedly preparing to revoke Harvard University’s tax-exempt status, a move seen as part of Donald Trump’s ongoing attacks on higher education institutions. Trump recently called for the revocation on his Truth Social platform, accusing Harvard of promoting political and ideological agendas, which he claims violate the conditions for tax exemption.
The White House claims the IRS investigation began independently before Trump’s public remarks. Legal experts note there's no evidence Harvard violated any tax laws, and revoking its status would likely be unlawful.
The move follows Harvard’s refusal to comply with Trump’s demands and comes amid a freeze of $2.3 billion in federal funds. Other universities, including Stanford, have expressed support for Harvard, citing concerns over academic freedom. Losing tax-exempt status could cost Harvard billions and damage the broader landscape of higher education.

More fascism from the trump regime. Where is the congressional outrage?
The un-asked question is: Does Harvard have the resources to weather this sudden threat? From what I understand she won't collapse, far from it. Someday, the grant stream will flow again, but meanwhile let's praise her courage. (ps--At which college(s) will he gave commencement addresses? ..)
