The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electricity in the deregulated market of Texas. As a resident of Houston, I have long loathed the mind-bending and inscrutable marketplace that is supposed to deliver the promise of the free market. Now, we see the manifest flaws in our electricity infrastructure due to systematic underinvestment by companies obsessed with short-term profit and managed by people who don't even live in Texas.
