Mike Johnson has an historic opportunity to help buttress democracy in a former Soviet state, something that would have been a no-brainer for any Republican elected official just a few years ago. But since his party has been taken over by a pro-authoritarian cult leader who demands obeisance from all in his party, I wouldn't hold my breath. But defying Trump would require a spine, and all Republicans with even a hint of independence have been purged from Congress.
