For years, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has portrayed voter fraud as one of the greatest threats to American democracy. He created tip lines for citizens to report suspicious voting activity. He warned Texans that “it is illegal to misrepresent your residence on election records.” His office prosecuted people accused of voting from addresses where they didn’t live. He built a political brand around the message that election laws must be enforced without exception.
