Tucker Carlson may be nervous about President Trump’s latest adventure in bombing Iran, but most of MAGA is too busy waving flags and chanting "Trust the Plan" to worry about nuance.
On CNN News Central, analyst Harry Enten pointed out that while Trump’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites aren’t exactly winning hearts and minds among the general public, Republican voters are, as always, firmly in the “Whatever He Does Is Genius” camp.
Trump, ever the peacemaker who campaigned on ending foreign wars, has once again proven that in MAGA-world, war is peace, bombing is de-escalation, and campaign promises are optional. After launching airstrikes, he promptly declared a ceasefire, while accusing both sides of violating it. Somehow, this masterclass in self-contradiction only made his base love him more.
Right-wing infighting did erupt briefly, with Tucker Carlson daring to suggest that maybe, just maybe, starting another Middle East war isn’t “America First.” But within minutes, MAGA influencers were on hand to explain that if Trump bombed Iran, it must be part of his 4D chess genius. Mark Levin and others dutifully shouted for more bombs, while Laura Loomer offered to create an enemies list of anyone insufficiently loyal—you know, as real democracies do.
“This is Donald Trump’s Republican Party,” Enten said, stating the obvious. “Tucker Carlson be darned—he doesn’t speak for the MAGA masses.” And he’s right: polling shows that 76% of Republicans support the strikes, while only 18% are concerned that Trump might be contradicting every anti-war promise he ever made.
Meanwhile, the general public remains far less enthused, with Trump’s net approval for the bombing sitting underwater. But MAGA has long since stopped caring what non-Trump voters think, or even what past-Trump thought.
As one MAGA influencer summed it up perfectly: “Trump said no more stupid wars. This one isn’t stupid because he started it. Checkmate.”
Those of us less convinced of Trump’s intelligence find ourselves far more concerned.
Despite daily, overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Republican voters still take Trump's line, that he is "a very stable genius" as fact.
What baffles me is that I still find that baffling!
And why did Chump bomb Iran. There has to be something in it for him! Can’t be the greater good, ever. A share of Bibi’s glory? A legacy as the destroyer of Iran? How about a distraction away from BBB, alternatively, Bad Bloody Bill?? Will MAGA finally buy into Chump’s real character, me, me, me and screw everyone else??
