What Could Go Wrong?
America narrowly escaped profound threats to our democracy in the 2020 election, and again when Trump cultists stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 in an attempt to stop the certification of the election. In any sane democracy, this alone would disqualify Trump from being a serious contender for president ever again. But ours suffers from a cultish, metastasizing cancer that is resistant to any of the treatments our conventional democratic institutions have thrown at it thanks to the abject servitude of most Republican officials, a corrupt right-wing media ecosystem, and Americans who ensconce themselves into comfortable information and disinformation silos. Buckle up, America. It's going to be a wild ride no matter what happens on Nov. 5.
