Charter schools were established for the elite who don't want their children going to public schools. They do not deserve to be subsidized. I went to public school in a small town of 3,000 people. We graduated from this school doctors, a heart surgeon, lawyers, businessmen, educators, and the general public. I taught in a public school for forty years before retiring. Public schools in small towns rely on the revenue from property taxes. Charter schools take money from that pool which makes it difficult for public schools to survive.

I have something that MIGHT be a partial solution : Take tax exempt status away from churches & other religious institutions that have endorsed conservative candidates & agendas. If they can't pony up the dollahs, then the properties get offered up to schools & universities as annexes or learning annexes, community centers & similar. This might offset problems from charter schools, while repurposing buildings that'd otherwise be left to crumble & become areas for illegal activity. There are likely some BIG holes in this idea, as I'm pulling it out of my skull at 10 : 30 a.m.

I call BULL - CR-P. The GOP wants to raise up an army of feckless, gullible, indoctrinated rednecks to keep up their reputation as people who bear a similarity to the dodo. They belong back in the 50's watching out for the " Red Scare " & generally everything not WASP Evangelical & hyper - conservative.

Charles - I think that every Republican't with ties to the previous " administration " of Trump the failed Antichrist should be locked up in prison or a psychiatric institution. I realize that this won't happen ( unless we make being a card - carrying Republiscum a crime ), but one can dream.

For those who have not already done so, now is a great time to read Octavia Butler's books - Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents.
